My first experience was mentoring a 13-year-old girl who was living in an Olive Crest home. We have maintained a close relationship for 21 years, during which time she attended Olive Crest\u2019s high school and I got to cheer her on during graduation. With the help of Olive Crest, she went on to college.   \nI was so impressed by the quality of her care and support she received during all those years, so a few years later, when I sold some property and had some discretionary funds, I wanted to invest in helping some of God\u2019s children who need assistance. I own a barber shop called The Barber Shop located in Palm Desert and I was approached to come join Flat Black in gathering toys for Christmas for Olive Crest. We offered our clients at the barbershop a free gift certificate for a hair cut in trade for a toy to donate. The participation from our community was amazing. We love what Olive Crest does and asked what more can we do to help. School started soon so we did he same thing by donating backpacks full of supplies. Though the family was safe, but the fire spread throughout their home, damaging and destroying all of their personal belongings. \nTheir Olive Crest team quickly jumped into action and shared their needs with different community members. Within the matter of a week, they were able to find new housing and received additional support including gift cards for food, groceries, new clothing and shoes. In the aftermath of this tragedy, the Jackson family is building back the pieces of their lives that were lost. Olive Crest&#039;s Church Engagement Team was being built and they had a job fit for me, mobilizing the local church to care for vulnerable children. I came on board 2 years ago and have witnessed God&#039;s faithfulness to so many children like myself. I have seen God fulfill His promises of being Father to the fatherless. One of our favorite comments came from a young lady participant: &#039;I&#039;ve never had so much fun in my life!&#039; after catching a mackerel, &#039;God&#039;s gift to fishing kids&#039;.
